What exactly is an Aircrate?

Our Aircrates are inflatable sleeves suitable for shipping and transporting artworks. They are made from a durable material, and the air columns are independent, so if one is punctured, it barely affects the rest of the packaging.

How do you inflate the Aircrate?

Accepted Answer

Aircrates can be inflated using a simple manual pump (balloon-style) or any electric compressor. Using a compressor allows you to add more pressure, making the packaging more rigid. We recommend using a compressor for the larger sizes. Do not inflate above 7 BAR (3.5 BAR for XS and XSS).

Is it a problem if the surface of the artwork comes into contact with the plastic?

Our product is made from an acid-free, non-abrasive material, so as long as the paint is COMPLETELY DRY, there should be no problem for short displays (less than one week). For longer displays, we recommend covering the artwork with a neutral protective paper such as Glassine or Tyvek.

What happens if the size of the sleeve is not exactly the same as the size of the artwork?

If the artwork is slightly smaller than the sleeve you selected, we recommend folding the excess material at the back and securing it with a bit of tape so the piece stays snug. Since the air columns are independent, you can also cut sections of the sleeve to adapt it to your needs.

Is it safe to ship my artwork using only an Aircrate?

Accepted Answer

We believe Aircrate is a very good solution for shipping artworks. If you are sending it by courier, we recommend using a double sleeve—one closing over the other—so it is fully sealed and has a double protective layer. However, Aircrate cannot protect against punctures and may be damaged if the shipping company does not handle the parcel properly. It’s advisable to add fragile labels if you are shipping using only an Aircrate.

Why is it a good idea to use Artmor boxes?

Our boxes are designed to protect high-value items at a minimal cost. Additionally, you will save a lot on shipping costs and the tedious packing and unpacking.

Do I need to seal the box?

Accepted Answer

In the event that the artwork is to be shipped by courier, we recommend sealing the box with adhesive tape where indicated for added security. Another advantage of the box is that in the event it needs to be inspected by customs, it is very easy to open and reseal without losing packaging quality.
